1. The Assessment (Initial Consultation)
We do not offer same-day surgery because your safety and informed choice are paramount. You will first book an Initial Assessment where your podiatrist will:
- Thoroughly assess and diagnose the cause of your pain.
- Check your neuro-vascular status to ensure safe healing.
- Discuss the procedure, potential risks, and alternative conservative treatments.
- We then ensure you have at least 24 hours to reflect on the information before booking the procedure.
2. The Painless Procedure
On the day of surgery, the process is straightforward and painless:
- Local Anaesthetic: A small injection is administered to the base of the toe, which will numb the entire area. You may feel a slight nip, but most patients say the pain of the ingrown nail is worse than the injection itself!
- The Surgery: Once the toe is completely numb, the offending piece of nail (Partial Nail Avulsion) or the entire nail (Total Nail Avulsion) is gently lifted and removed.
