Abingdon Marathon
The Abingdon marathon is based in Oxfordshire in the town of Abingdon, just south of Oxford. At Zest Podiatry & Physio we are proud and fortunate to be supporting and sponsoring this our local marathon.
Type of course
The course passes through the centre of Abingdon and the villages of Drayton, Milton and Sutton Courtenay as well as passing through the Milton Park business estate along the way. The course is mainly flat, with the start and finish at Tilsley Park athletics track and great for first-time marathoners, and those chasing personal bests.
Participants
The marathon entry has grown over the years but has an entry limit of 1,20. We expect this number to be reached within 90 days, well before the closing date, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment.
History of the Abingdon marathon
It was first held in 1982. 2021 will be its 40th year. Three races have been cancelled in history, 2007, 2020 and 2021.
The Abingdon Marathon normally incorporate the following championship events: Oxfordshire County Marathon Championships and Army AA Marathon Championships.
Organiser
Committee of volunteers from clubs across Oxfordshire. The Committee is grateful to the regular support from Abingdon AC, Headington Road Runners and White Horse Harriers AC. Without this support and the assistance of a number of other local clubs and voluntary organisations the race would not take place.
In addition to putting on a first class event for the competitors, the organisers aim to support a number of local charities and the main beneficiaries over recent years have included Helen & Douglas House, Maggie’s Centres, SeeSaw, The Abingdon Bridge and The Archway Foundation.
